Arsenal is on the verge of completing a deal for Espanyol star Joan Garcia, making him their first signing of the summer.

The Spanish goalkeeper has attracted significant interest, including from several English clubs and Spanish giants Real Madrid. However, it appears that Arsenal has secured his services and will announce his arrival soon. According to reports from Spain, the 23-year-old will officially join Arsenal shortly. The transfer fee remains undisclosed, and Garcia still has four years left on his contract with Espanyol.

Last season, Garcia made 21 appearances in all competitions for Espanyol, helping them secure promotion to La Liga. When asked about his future towards the end of the campaign, Garcia was non-committal about a potential move, stating, “I have always felt the love of the fans. I’m very happy that people are with me. And for that part (transfers), don’t worry, I’m very good here and above all, I would ask you to be calm and encourage us.”

If Arsenal finalizes the deal for Garcia, manager Mikel Arteta may face a challenging decision regarding his goalkeeping options. David Raya, who joined Arsenal on loan from Brentford last season, is expected to make a permanent move to the Emirates for £27 million.

Discussing the potential signing of Garcia at the end of the season, Arteta said, “Those conversations are for after the season. We will review where we are. Obviously, we are really happy with David and everything he has brought to the club and the team, there is no question about it. But, those decisions are taken by all of us at the club and we will see.”

Aaron Ramsdale’s future with Arsenal is also uncertain. He lost his starting position to Raya last season and has been linked with a move away from the club. Earlier reports suggested that Newcastle had agreed on a deal to sign Ramsdale, but they now seem to be focusing on Burnley’s James Trafford instead.

Arteta has indicated that he expects Ramsdale to remain with Arsenal. The 26-year-old goalkeeper has two years left on his current contract. Arteta commented, “A suggestion? There is a big reality that Aaron will be here because he is our player and has a contract.”

In addition to their interest in goalkeepers, Arsenal has also been linked with potential signings of forwards this summer, including Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres.
