Tuesday morning deal, Player’s medicals already booked and shirt number has been confirmed- Arsenal have reached agreement in principle to sign £70M rated player who is technically better than Darwin Nunez

Arsenal are currently considered the frontrunners to secure one of their primary transfer targets in the coming days, with the player’s current club keen to finalize a sale before the end of June.

Arsenal have yet to make significant moves in the transfer market as they carefully seek the signings that could propel them to a Premier League title. Fortunately, Mikel Arteta has already constructed a versatile squad, allowing him to explore various options and wait for the right player to become available at an appropriate price. There is no urgent need for hasty decisions at the Emirates this summer.

One such opportunity may soon present itself, as Mundo Deportivo reports that Everton prefer to sell Amadou Onana before the end of the month.

Arsenal currently seen as favourites to sign Amadou Onana

Due to concerns about complying with Profit and Sustainability rules, Everton aims to strengthen their financial position by selling the Belgian midfielder sooner rather than later. Arsenal have already expressed interest in Onana this summer, and Mundo Deportivo now reports that the Gunners are considered the favourites to sign him. Other clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester United, and Bayern Munich, are also reportedly interested.

Gunners fans may have mixed feelings about interest in the Belgian

The key question surrounding Onana is whether he can elevate his game to meet the demands of a top-tier team like Arsenal after a respectable stint at Goodison Park. At times, Onana has demonstrated exceptional skill, especially when advancing with the ball, and his versatility has been praised by Everton manager Sean Dyche for his ‘terrific’ work-rate.

However, Onana was not a regular starter for Everton in the final weeks of the season, which might suggest he is not yet ready to meet Arsenal’s high standards. Additionally, although Everton would prefer to sell him soon, they are unlikely to let him go for a bargain price. Therefore, some Arsenal fans might feel the transfer budget could be better spent elsewhere.

Making Onana the marquee midfield signing for Arsenal this summer would be a significant gamble.
