Real Madrid star will leave the club to join the English Manchester City

In a dramatic turn of events at Valdebebas this morning, Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has officially confirmed that one of the club’s brightest stars will be leaving the Santiago Bernabéu this summer to join Premier League champions Manchester City.

Speaking at a highly anticipated press conference, Alonso addressed the swirling speculation, stating:

> “After thorough discussions with the player and the board, we’ve agreed that it’s the right time for him to take on a new challenge. He’s given everything for Real Madrid and leaves with our utmost respect. Manchester City is getting a top professional.”

Although the club refrained from naming the player outright in the opening remarks, reliable reports from Spanish and English outlets quickly identified the departing star as Rodrygo Goes.

The Brazilian winger, who joined Madrid in 2019 and played a vital role in the club’s LaLiga and Champions League campaigns, is believed to have agreed personal terms with Pep Guardiola’s side earlier this week. The transfer fee is rumored to be in the region of £85 million, with add-ons pushing the potential deal over £95 million — making it one of the biggest sales in Real Madrid history.

Rodrygo’s departure marks a significant change in Real Madrid’s attacking setup, especially after the recent arrival of Kylian Mbappé and the emergence of Arda Güler and Endrick Felipe. When asked about how the squad will adapt without Rodrygo, Alonso responded confidently:

> “We have an incredible depth of talent in this team. New faces are stepping up, and we’re building towards a fresh, dynamic future while respecting the incredible legacy players like Rodrygo have left behind.”

Sources close to the deal suggest Rodrygo is expected to undergo his medical in Manchester within the next 48 hours before officially signing a long-term contract that will see him become one of the highest-paid players at the Etihad.

The player himself took to social media moments after the announcement, posting an emotional farewell message to Madrid fans:

> “It’s difficult to put into words what Real Madrid means to me. Thank you for believing in a kid from Brazil. I leave with unforgettable memories and a heart full of gratitude. Hala Madrid… always.”

The move will no doubt raise eyebrows across Europe, with City adding yet another high-caliber attacker to their already star-studded lineup ahead of the new season.

Fans of both clubs will eagerly await the official unveiling, with reports hinting at a possible presentation at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.
