“Arsenal maltreated him and I will personally advise him to join Chelsea because they seem like a much more serious club than us” Arsenal Legend Ian Wright says Chelsea should have signed £25M Arsenal star since last summer- Not Vieira, Not Smith Rowe and not Nketiah

Ian Wright: Chelsea Should Have Signed £18m Goalkeeper From Arsenal Last Summer

Chelsea are currently second in the Premier League, and things are looking bright for the Blues. Enzo Maresca has transformed the team, making them serious title contenders, even if he might not openly acknowledge it.

However, there’s a notable issue in the squad—the goalkeeper. Robert Sanchez has faced heavy criticism for his performances this season. Speaking on The Kelly and Wrighty Show, Ian Wright emphasized the need for Chelsea to secure a top goalkeeper, suggesting that Aaron Ramsdale would have been an ideal signing during the summer.

Ramsdale Was the Perfect Fit

Wright highlighted Ramsdale as a missed opportunity for Chelsea. The England international left Arsenal for Southampton last summer in an £18m deal, yet Chelsea didn’t pursue him.

“I think if Chelsea can get a goalkeeper, a top goalkeeper, I think Ramsdale would’ve been perfect for them,” Wright said. “They also need a Thiago Silva-like experienced center-half. If they address those gaps, they’re definitely in the title fight.”

Who Could Chelsea Target Now?

While Ramsdale is no longer an option, Chelsea still have potential alternatives. Over the summer, they were linked to Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega, a move that could still make sense.

Another promising option is Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher. The Irish goalkeeper has impressed recently but appears unhappy with his limited opportunities at Anfield. With Giorgi Mamardashvili expected to join Liverpool next summer, Kelleher’s playing time could diminish further.

Chelsea could offer Kelleher the chance to become their first-choice goalkeeper in a team competing at the top of the table. Such a transfer could benefit all parties involved.
