“Goodbye…”; Midfielder ‘bids farewell’ to fans and his teammates as he reveals his sensational €60m transfer to Arsenal will happen by January
Arsenal are reportedly targeting Barcelona winger Raphinha and Real Madrid’s emerging talent Arda Güler in the January transfer window, as they look to strengthen their squad.
Mikel Arteta’s side has experienced a dip in form recently, picking up just two points from their last four Premier League matches. As a result, they have dropped to fourth in the league, now trailing Chelsea, nine points behind leaders Liverpool, and four behind defending champions Manchester City.
This poor run coincided with William Saliba’s first-ever Premier League red card, which occurred during their 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth. Since then, Arsenal have drawn 2-2 with Liverpool, lost 1-0 at Newcastle, and shared a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in their most recent match.
With only six teams scoring more goals than Arsenal so far this season, Arteta is reportedly eager to bolster his attack in January. According to Spanish reports, the Gunners are prepared to spend over €100 million (£84m) on Raphinha and Güler.
Raphinha has become a priority for Arteta, who has followed the Brazilian’s career since his time at Leeds United. While Barcelona are reluctant to part with the winger, it is believed his transfer could exceed €70 million—an amount Arsenal are reportedly willing to pay.
Meanwhile, Arteta is also keen on signing 20-year-old Turkish international Arda Güler, who has struggled for consistent playing time under Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid. Arteta views Güler as a perfect complement to Martin Ødegaard in the creative midfield role. While Güler’s transfer could be more affordable—valued at around €40 million—negotiations with Madrid are expected to be challenging.
Arsenal are also keeping an eye on the midfield, with reports from Spain suggesting that Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi is close to joining the Gunners. Zubimendi, whose release clause is around €60 million, could be nearing the end of his time at Sociedad, with Arteta remaining determined to bring him to North London. Arsenal face competition for his signature from Manchester City and other clubs, but his price tag is unlikely to deter the Gunners.
