According to The Athletic, Arsenal are considering a move for Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams, though they are likely to face competition from Barcelona.

Williams had an outstanding 2023/24 season with Athletic Bilbao, scoring 8 goals and providing 19 assists across all competitions, helping his team win the Copa del Rey. His impressive form continued with Spain at the European Championship, where he contributed 3 goals, including one in the final against England.

The Athletic reports that Williams is a potential target for Arsenal if they decide to strengthen their wide positions. However, signing him won’t be straightforward. Barcelona also admires the 22-year-old, and Athletic Bilbao would require his £49 million release clause to be paid in full. Additionally, Arsenal might need to offload some of their current attackers to make room and generate funds for the transfer.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta may be looking to enhance his attacking options for the upcoming season, and Williams would be a strong addition given his exceptional performances at such a young age. Williams primarily played from the left wing last season but can also operate effectively on the right, adding to his appeal due to his versatility.

Williams is known for his excellent dribbling skills and work ethic, making him a quality signing. However, Arsenal would need to assure him of sufficient playing time for him to consider leaving Athletic Bilbao.
