TUESDAY MORNING DEAL: Arsenal set to finalised the signing of ‘underrated’ player who gave Lionel Messi a very tough game during the 2022 World Cup- Arteta is impressed by the player and Arsenal have quickly sealed a deal for him
According to the Evening Standard, Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez has become a potential summer transfer target for Arsenal after RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko declined their offer. Arsenal are now focusing on other options, identifying the Mexican international as a player with a similar profile to Sesko.
Gimenez presents a fresh attacking option for Arsenal, aligning with their strategy of recruiting young players with significant potential for growth. The 23-year-old had an impressive 2023-24 season, scoring 23 goals and providing six assists in 30 Eredivisie matches. He also contributed three goals and two assists in 11 games across other competitions.
Arsenal’s scouting team has been monitoring Gimenez for some time and would be impressed by his performance, as he netted 28 goals in all competitions during the 2022-23 season for both Cruz Azul and Feyenoord.
However, Arsenal faces competition for Gimenez’s signature, with Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United, Southampton, and Liverpool also expressing interest in the striker. Currently valued at £38 million by Transfermarkt, Gimenez’s value could rise significantly if he performs well in the upcoming Copa America with the North American team.
Gimenez, who stands at 6 feet tall, is keen to move to a bigger league after two successful seasons in the Dutch top-flight. The opportunity to join Arsenal would likely be very appealing to him. Known for his strong finishing ability, Gimenez is expected to adapt quickly to the Premier League, potentially making a significant impact for Arsenal as they prepare for another title challenge.
