Arsenal didn’t quite clinch the title last season, but they undeniably made significant progress under Mikel Arteta in the 2022/23 campaign. The team reached the quarterfinals of the Champions League and pushed Manchester City to the final day of the Premier League season, boasting the best defensive record in the competition. However, they scored five fewer goals than City, highlighting a key area for improvement.
This summer, Arsenal’s focus has been on acquiring a new number nine, with interest in players like Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyokeres. While seeking a starting striker, finding a reliable backup is also crucial, especially if Eddie Nketiah leaves the club.
Recent reports suggest that Arsenal’s technical director, Edu Gaspar, may have found an ideal solution in Atlético Madrid’s young striker Samu Omorodion. According to the Sunday Mirror via football.london, Arsenal have expressed interest in Omorodion, who is drawing comparisons to Erling Haaland. Along with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Roma, Napoli, and Chelsea are also interested in the forward. Chelsea has already had an offer rejected by Atlético Madrid, who have offered Omorodion a new contract with an £85m release clause.
With significant interest from other clubs, securing Omorodion could be challenging. However, if Nketiah is sold for around £35m, signing the young Spanish striker could be a brilliant move for Arsenal, given his potential and comparisons to Haaland.
