Arsenal’s Interest in Riccardo Calafiori
Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Arsenal has expressed interest in signing Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, following his exceptional performances at Euro 2024.
Calafiori’s Rising Stock
The defender has become one of the most sought-after players in Europe. He not only had a stellar season with Bologna but also impressed significantly for Italy in the Euros.
Arsenal’s Perspective
Impressed by Calafiori’s performances, Arsenal views him as a strong candidate for the left-footed centre-back position. The Gunners are eager to strengthen their squad with top talents from the Euros, although they face competition from prominent clubs like Juventus and Real Madrid, who are also keen on the player.
Status of Negotiations
While Romano confirms Arsenal’s interest, he clarifies that the club has not yet moved to formal negotiations for the centre-back. Speaking to The Sun, Romano said:
“For Calafiori, Arsenal made an enquiry to understand the situation of the player. It’s also normal when you are looking for a left-footed player, a left-foot defender. Calafiori is one of the best available now on the market.
“Arsenal has shown their interest in the situation, but at the moment, it’s not a negotiation. There is no bid, there is no contact with Bologna, so it’s just an enquiry to understand the situation of Calafiori.”
Just Arsenal’s Opinion
Currently, Gabriel Magalhães has been outstanding as a left-footed centre-back for Arsenal. However, should the club sign Calafiori, Magalhães will need to demonstrate that he remains the superior option.
