Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is on the verge of signing Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in a deal valued at €90 million. According to a report from Leonino, Arsenal is close to finalizing the transfer of Gyokeres, who had an outstanding season with the Portuguese club. The Gunners have reached an agreement with Sporting CP, marking a significant move in their pursuit of a new top striker.

**Arsenal’s Quest for a New Striker**

Arsenal has narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City in the past two seasons. Arteta believes that to overcome Pep Guardiola’s team, Arsenal needs to enhance the quality of their squad, particularly in the striker position. Arteta feels that a world-class striker is essential to bridging the gap and has been dissatisfied with the current forwards’ performance. As part of this strategy, Arsenal has been targeting Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has been under close observation by Arsenal, and the club is confident in his ability to fit into their system. The Swedish striker, who joined Sporting CP last summer from Coventry City for €20 million, had a stellar debut season, contributing to 58 goals. He scored 43 goals in 50 appearances, showcasing exceptional form that caught the attention of Arsenal’s scouts.

**Arsenal Secures a Deal for Gyokeres**

As a result, Arsenal has been determined to secure his signature. Despite Gyokeres having four years remaining on his contract and a €100 million release clause, Arsenal has negotiated a deal for €120 million in total. This includes an upfront payment of €90 million, with an additional €30 million in performance-based variables.

Negotiations have progressed swiftly, and the deal is expected to be finalized by the end of the month. Arsenal is optimistic that Gyokeres will be a key addition to their squad, helping them in their quest to finally clinch the Premier League title.
