Arsenal Interested in Striker Viktor Gyokeres but Face Stiff Demands from Sporting Lisbon

Arsenal have been informed by Sporting Lisbon’s club president that they are willing to sell their 26-year-old striker, Viktor Gyokeres, for a sum of £60 million, but with a significant condition attached. Although Mikel Arteta is not pleased with this condition, Arsenal’s Sporting Director is eager to secure the natural goalscorer who netted 43 goals last season.

Arsenal Prepared to Pay £60M for Gyokeres, Sporting Lisbon Demands £85M

According to The Sun, Arsenal are looking to negotiate a deal for Gyokeres within the region of £60 million during the current summer transfer window. However, Sporting Lisbon is firm on their stance, insisting on the striker’s £85 million release clause.

Gyokeres had an exceptional season in 2023-24, scoring 43 goals and providing 15 assists in 50 matches across all competitions. His contributions were pivotal in Sporting winning the Primeira Liga, where he also emerged as the top scorer with 29 goals.

The Swedish international fits perfectly into Mikel Arteta’s plans to strengthen Arsenal’s attack for another title challenge. Initially, the Gunners had their sights set on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and were ready to activate his £55 million release clause. However, Sesko’s recent contract extension with Leipzig forced Arsenal to explore alternative options.

Arsenal have been monitoring Gyokeres for the past year and believe his attributes can significantly enhance their offensive prowess. Despite this, the £85 million price tag set by Sporting Lisbon remains a potential hurdle, as Arsenal are hesitant to meet such a high demand for the former Coventry City forward.

Sporting Lisbon aims to raise funds this summer but would prefer to do so through the sale of other players, including defenders Ousmane Diomande and Goncalo Inacio, both of whom have been linked with Arsenal. Diomande is valued at around £50 million, while Inacio has a £52 million release clause. Nevertheless, Arsenal’s primary focus is on acquiring another attacker and they hope that Sporting will reconsider their demands for Gyokeres.
