Arsenal may soon make an initial bid to begin negotiations for a £50 million-rated England star this summer, as Mikel Arteta seeks to strengthen a crucial part of his team.

With the help of the club’s sporting director, Edu, Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta could initiate a defensive overhaul in the coming weeks, despite Arsenal having the best defensive record in the Premier League last season.

Arsenal Interested in £52m Euro 2024 Star Wanted by Barcelona
No other top-flight team conceded fewer goals than Arsenal in the 2023/2024 season, with Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba excelling at the heart of the defense. However, the lack of central defensive depth beyond these two remains a concern.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jakub Kiwior, and Ben White can all play as center-backs, but Arteta currently prefers using them as full-back options. Arsenal is reportedly interested in Euro 2024 standout Ferdi Kadioglu from Fenerbahce, and his addition could allow Tomiyasu, Kiwior, or White to be used more frequently as center-backs.

However, reports indicate that Arsenal is keen on adding another central defender to provide solid backup to Saliba and Gabriel. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has noted that Arsenal is very interested in Ajax defender Jorrel Hato. According to Romano, Arsenal believes they are leading the race to sign him.

“Arsenal are also working on their future. They have many wonderkids in the academy, but they love Jorrel Hato, a centre-back from Ajax,” Romano said on the Here We Go podcast last month.

Despite Hato signing a new deal at Ajax two months ago, Arsenal continues to follow him, viewing him as a top centre-back with great potential. Arsenal remains hopeful and is pushing for Hato, believing they are the frontrunners for his signature. Whether they can secure his transfer this summer or in the future remains to be seen.

Another Target: Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi
Arsenal is also considering Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi. The 23-year-old was impressive last season, earning a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 England squad and starting against Serbia.

Arsenal is now prepared to test Crystal Palace’s willingness to sell Guehi. According to CaughtOffside, Arsenal may initiate talks with an opening bid but will face competition from Newcastle United. Crystal Palace values Guehi at around £50 million, a price Arsenal currently finds too high, though they may attempt to negotiate it down.

It will be interesting to see if Guehi would consider a move to Arsenal, given the presence of Saliba and Gabriel, which would mean more competition for regular playing time.
