Arsenal have just tabled a whopping £42M bid to sign Defensive midfielder who scored more goals than even James Maddison as Mikel Arteta eyes the best possible Thomas Partey replacement
Arsenal will almost certainly strengthen the midfield in the summer.
The Gunners could lose Thomas Partey, while the contracts of Jorginho and Mohamed Elneny will also expire at the end of the season. If all of them leave, Mikel Arteta’s squad will be severely depleted in midfield.
A number of quality centre-forwards have been linked with a move to Arsenal, and after being snapped up three months ago, Arsenal are expected to offer Teun Koopmeiners.
TuttoJuve claims this week that the Dutch defensive midfielder is on the radar of Juventus, who are also looking to strengthen their midfield in the summer.
However, the Old Lady cannot compete financially with English clubs such as Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United, who could reportedly offer between £42-51 million (€50-60 million) to sign the central midfielder at the end of the season.
Koopmeiners, who joined Atalanta from AZ Alkmaar in 2021, has a contract that does not expire until the summer of 2027.
Koopmeiners is a defensive midfielder who scores goals
Defensive midfielders are never expected to score a huge number of goals, but Teun Koopmeiners is a special player whose numbers are absolutely outstanding.
In his last two seasons with AZ Alkmaar, the Dutchman has scored 33 goals and 10 assists, a staggering tally for a number six. Last season he scored 10 goals for Atalanta, and this campaign he has already equalled that record.
By comparison, the two best attacking midfielders in the Premier League – Martin Odegaard and James Maddison – have scored fewer goals than him in all competitions this season.
Koopmeiners would be a great reinforcement for many teams this summer, but it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal will actually make a bid for his signature.
