“If I play there for two years, I’ll earn an incredible amount. I had to play for 15 years, I may not even reach that amount…” Manchester City Star Kevin De Bruyne has decided to leave Manchester City this summer after speaking with the club, he is set to join this shocking Saudi Arabia Club
Kevin De Bruyne’s contract with Manchester City is set to expire at the end of the next season, when he will be 32 years old. Rumors are circulating that he might move to Saudi Arabia for a lucrative contract this summer, while Major League Soccer (MLS) is also emerging as a potential destination for the Belgian international.
De Bruyne concluded his ninth season with Manchester City last month, having made a significant comeback after undergoing leg surgery. His return was pivotal in helping Pep Guardiola’s team clinch a record-setting fourth consecutive Premier League title.
Despite undergoing hamstring surgery in August, De Bruyne had an impressive season, scoring 23 goals in 26 games during the 2023–24 campaign. He made a notable return as a substitute at St. James’ Park in late January.
Throughout his Premier League career, De Bruyne has been directly involved in 180 goals. This season, he also surpassed the 100-goal mark for Chelsea, contributing crucial goals in various competitions.
The most recent goal from De Bruyne came in April against Brighton. His last appearance this season was in May during Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United in the Emirates FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium.
This match in north London might have been De Bruyne’s final game for Guardiola’s team. Interest from Saudi Arabian clubs is growing, and negotiations have already begun between De Bruyne’s agents and MLS club San Diego FC.
Manchester City is expected to discuss extending De Bruyne’s contract this summer. However, in a surprising interview, De Bruyne expressed openness to a potential move to Saudi Arabia in the future.
“When you’re my age, you have to be honest,” De Bruyne told HLN Sport. “The amounts of money being talked about are huge, and it’s something you have to consider as my career might be nearing its end. Playing there for two years could earn me a massive sum.”
He reflected on his career, saying, “I’ve had to play football for 15 years to reach this point, and even now, I might not have earned as much. So, you need to think about what comes next. But it’s not something I’ve had to consider until now.”
De Bruyne also mentioned family considerations, saying, “A move to a distant place is something [my wife] Michèle is okay with. We’re discussing these things more as a family. With my contract at Man City ending in a year, I need to consider what the future holds.”
“My oldest child is eight and has only ever lived in England,” De Bruyne added. “He’s asking how much longer I will play for Man City. When the time comes, we’ll have to handle it carefully.”
As the end of his contract approaches, De Bruyne’s future remains uncertain, with both high-profile international offers and the possibility of extending his time with Manchester City on the table.
