Man City manager Pep Guardiola is set ‘to leave’ Man City next summer as club draws up elite four-man shortlist
Pep Guardiola is set to leave Manchester City in the summer of 2025, and the team has already compiled an impressive four-man shortlist of potential successors.
This season, Manchester City secured their fourth consecutive Premier League title, largely thanks to Guardiola’s exceptional leadership. Since joining Manchester City in 2016, Guardiola has won an impressive six league championships.
However, according to a report from The Daily Mail, Guardiola is expected to step down as Manchester City’s manager at the end of the next season. With only a year remaining on his current contract, sources within the club believe that the Spaniard will depart when his contract expires.
Guardiola has led the team to 15 major trophies, including Manchester City’s first-ever Champions League victory. The club’s management wants to give him time to weigh his options and is hopeful that he will continue in his role. However, there is concern that his ninth year at the club might be his last.
While Guardiola has not made any official announcements, the club’s executives are preparing for his potential departure. They are currently considering four managers as possible replacements for the 53-year-old Guardiola.
The shortlist of candidates includes Xabi Alonso, Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann, and Michel of Girona. Nagelsmann, who previously managed Bayern Munich, is under contract until 2026 and will be leading Germany in Euro 2024. Alonso has gained significant recognition for his success at Bayer Leverkusen, despite turning down an opportunity to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. Guardiola himself holds De Zerbi in high regard; De Zerbi is currently available after his departure from Brighton.
Manchester City will continue to monitor these potential candidates as they prepare for a future without Guardiola at the helm.
