David Beckham has expressed admiration for a particular Manchester City player. Beckham, who played 724 matches for prominent clubs like Manchester United, AC Milan, and Real Madrid, has a keen understanding of what it takes to excel in professional football.

Manchester City has matched the number of Premier League titles Beckham won with Manchester United during his career from the 1995-1996 season to the 2002-2003 season. As the owner of Inter Miami, Beckham recently shared his thoughts on a player from Pep Guardiola’s squad whom he truly admires.

In a recent video on the BBC Sport TikTok channel, Beckham and Gary Neville, a former teammate from United, were asked to compare players from United’s 1999 team with those from Guardiola’s current City team. When Neville was asked to choose between former United striker Dwight Yorke and City’s Phil Foden, he picked Foden. Beckham agreed with Neville’s choice, saying:

“I’d go with Yorkey too. But I love Phil, I really do. I love how much he cares about the club.”

Phil Foden is a beloved figure at Manchester City. He started his career in the club’s youth academy and made his senior debut in 2017 during City’s 1-0 victory over Feyenoord in the Champions League. Since then, Foden has played 269 matches for City across all competitions, scoring 87 goals and providing 52 assists.

Beckham’s admiration for Foden grew even more after the young midfielder won the FWA Footballer of the Year award. Beckham commented on Foden’s leadership and influence:

“We should follow his lead. We try to get the other guys to follow him. It’s an award for him and his teammates, but it’s also a recognition of Manchester City’s youth program. He embodies all of that—a player from Stockport who loves football, is professional, and is adapting to the way we want to play.”

Given Foden’s deep connection to Manchester City and his immense talent, it’s no wonder that Beckham holds him in such high regard.
