Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed this morning that he will be leaving Ethihad to join this shocking European giant

This week, reports surfaced in Germany suggesting that Bayern Munich could potentially reappoint their former manager, Pep Guardiola, as they seek to fill the void left by Thomas Tuchel’s departure.

After parting ways with Tuchel at the end of the season, Bayern’s interest in Xabi Alonso dwindled, and connections to Erik Ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, lost credibility with each defeat suffered by his team. Consequently, a rumor circulated in Kicker on Monday hinting that Guardiola’s former club, Bayern Munich, might be considering bringing him back this summer. However, the same source also acknowledged that Guardiola currently has no intention of leaving Manchester City.

Guardiola will have completed nine years with City when his contract expires in the summer of 2025. He has previously emphasized his commitment to honoring the contracts he signs and has stated that he won’t depart from a club before the contract expires unless exceptional circumstances arise.

During his first news conference following the announcement of charges against City last year, Guardiola firmly asserted, “I am not leaving this seat.” He also emphasized the importance of allowing City the opportunity to address the allegations.

He declared his intention to remain in charge even if relegation to League Two was a potential consequence. He reiterated this stance earlier this season, stating that he would be more inclined to stay at City if they were relegated from the top division than if they were to win the Champions League again.

After guiding City to a treble last season, Guardiola discussed his future, indicating that his feelings remained unchanged even after winning the Champions League. He hinted at a possible contract extension, expressing his satisfaction with the club’s hierarchy and board.

As the current season progressed, Guardiola continued to hint at his desire to stay at City, especially with his contract entering its final year and with the impending decision from the Premier League. The timing of this decision, described as “soon” by Premier League CEO Richard Masters, could also impact Guardiola’s contract negotiations.

Guardiola has maintained close communication with City’s leadership, including CEO Ferran Soriano, Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain, and Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak. However, it remains uncertain whether Guardiola would be open to returning to Bayern Munich after his tenure at City.

In a recent interview with ESPN Brazil, Guardiola expressed his interest in managing a national team competing in major tournaments such as the European Championship or the World Cup. While he expressed this desire, he also acknowledged that, similar to a club, a national team must express interest in hiring him. He emphasized his openness to new challenges and experiences, indicating a willingness to explore coaching opportunities beyond club football.
