Mason Greenwood has changed his nationality today and now he will play for one of the biggest national teams
Mason Greenwood, the talented footballer, is pondering a potential rebirth of his international career, with Jamaica emerging as a likely destination.
Despite his absence from the international stage with Jamaica thus far, Greenwood remains eligible to switch his allegiance from England, presenting an intriguing prospect for his future.
Following a tumultuous period marked by allegations of serious offenses, including attempted rape, controlling behavior, and assault, Greenwood’s club situation has recently gained some clarity. Manchester United severed ties with the 21-year-old, paving the way for a fresh start in his career.
The Crown Prosecution Service’s decision in February 2023, driven by the withdrawal of key witnesses and the emergence of new evidence, resulted in a conclusion that there was no longer sufficient grounds for prosecution. However, it’s essential to note that Greenwood was neither acquitted nor proven guilty in a court of law, contrary to his recent statement.
Manchester United, after conducting a thorough six-month internal assessment, opted to support Greenwood’s transition to a new club. While there is interest from various teams, the preference seems to lean towards a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer.
Recent reports suggest that AS Roma, under the management of Jose Mourinho, is among the clubs willing to provide Greenwood with an opportunity to reignite his career. Additionally, discussions regarding a loan have taken place with Atalanta, Inter, Monaco, and several clubs across Germany, Turkey, and Spain, with interest also coming from the Saudi Pro League.
Despite amassing significant experience at the club level by the age of 20, Greenwood’s international resume remains relatively thin. His England debut in September 2020 was marred by a breach of Covid-19 protocols, resulting in his premature departure from the national team camp.
Efforts to reintegrate Greenwood into the England setup following the Iceland incident faced challenges, although there were indications of a potential return. However, subsequent events, including his withdrawal from the Euro 2020 squad due to illness and the legal proceedings, hindered his progress.
Given his ancestry, Greenwood also has the option to represent Jamaica on the international stage, a prospect that has garnered interest from the Jamaica Football Federation since 2021. Recent sightings of Greenwood sporting the Jamaican team’s tracksuit fuel speculation about a potential switch.
Under FIFA regulations revised in 2020, players under the age of 21 who have not participated in more than three senior international matches are eligible to change their national allegiance. Greenwood’s solitary appearance for England at 18 falls within this criteria, opening the door for a potential switch to Jamaica.
