Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham escapes punishment for Mason Greenwood clash

Real Madrid’s standout player, Jude Bellingham, finds himself potentially facing a two-game suspension due to his red card for dissent against Valencia in the previous weekend’s match. However, a separate controversy emerged when allegations surfaced that Bellingham had directed an offensive term towards Mason Greenwood, a player loaned to Manchester United.

Following the release of video footage capturing an interaction between Bellingham and Greenwood, viewers speculated that Bellingham had uttered a two-syllable word believed by some to be “rapist.” Nevertheless, Bellingham defended himself by asserting that he had actually said “rubbish.” Although the incident did not lead to any on-field repercussions, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) deemed it necessary to launch an investigation.

According to reports from Marca, the case has now been closed without any disciplinary action taken against Bellingham. Despite employing a professional lip-reader in an attempt to clarify the situation, the RFEF was unable to definitively determine whether Bellingham had indeed used the term “rapist” or “rubbish.” Consequently, Bellingham will not be subjected to a ban, thus avoiding the potential consequence of missing four or more matches.

Interestingly, it was reported that Greenwood himself wished for the matter to be dropped once it came to light. This is noteworthy considering Greenwood’s own past entanglement with serious allegations. Two years prior, the 22-year-old Getafe forward faced accusations of attempted rape, coercive behavior, and assault causing bodily harm. However, the case against him was eventually dropped after key witnesses withdrew their testimonies.

Despite the resolution of the lip-reading controversy, Bellingham remains in line for a suspension due to his outburst during the match against Valencia.
