Arsenal next Five fixtures compared to Man city and Liverpool as Arteta Men close gap to 2 points after humiliating Newcastle yesterday
Arsenal returned to winning ways with a convincing Premier League victory over Newcastle United. Porto defeated the Gunners in Champions League action earlier this week, scoring deep into stoppage time while Mikel Arteta’s side failed to record a shot on target.
Arsenal’s lack of forward presence was shocking given that they had scored 21 goals in five games prior to their trip to Portugal. However, their goal-scoring prowess resurfaced at Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening, with four goals past the Magpies.
After 19 minutes, Loris Karius saved a Gabriel Magalhaes header, which ricocheted off Sven Botman and into the net after Newcastle failed to clear.
Bukayo Saka then added a third just after the hour mark with a brilliant run and finish before Jakub Kiwior scored Arsenal’s nineteenth goal from a set-piece just four minutes later. Second half substitutes Dan Burn and Willock then combined in the final stages for the visitors to score a consolation goal.
Another three points has put Arsenal firmly in the title fight, and with a favorable fixture schedule ahead, the Gunners might soon overtake Liverpool and Manchester City. With that said, football.london has looked at Arsenal’s future matchups and compared them to those of their title opponents.
Arsenal’s next five fixtures
Sheffield United (A) – Monday, March 4
Brentford (H) – Saturday, March 9
Porto (H) – Tuesday, March 12 (Champions League)
Chelsea (H) – Saturday, March 16
Manchester City (A) – Sunday, March 31
Verdict
Arteta received the exact reaction he was seeking for following Arsenal’s defeat to Porto. The Gunners were fantastic against Newcastle, both with and without the ball, on Saturday evening, and will be aiming to carry that momentum into what is perhaps their easiest tie of the season against Sheffield United on Monday.
The Blades have conceded ten goals in their previous two home games, so Arteta and his squad will be expecting to dramatically improve their goal differential. A match against Brentford then kicks off a stretch of three home games in which Arsenal will hope to maintain their impressive form, with the following one being the second leg of their Champions League contest against Porto.
Chelsea will visit in mid-March for a London derby, with Arsenal looking to revenge a two-point loss earlier in the season. The penultimate day of next month will feature their biggest showdown of the season, followed by a trip to reigning champions Manchester City.
