‘It’s time we stripped him of the captain’s armband, otherwise Arsenal will go trophy-less like last season’: Man United legend urges Arteta to strip Martin Ødegaard. His captaincy role, and provide it One Arsenal player, if they truly want to win Titles

Arsenal should change their present captain since they have a ‘leader’ on the team, according to club icon Emmanuel Petit.

Martin Odegaard was selected Arsenal captain for the 2022/23 season.

The 25-year-old still wears the captain’s armband, but Mikel Arteta has been pushed to delegate the role to another member of his squad.

Petit, who spent three seasons at Arsenal, feels Declan Rice should be chosen captain, praising his qualities and performance against Liverpool last weekend.

Arsenal defeated Liverpool 3-1 last Sunday, closing the gap on their rivals to just two points.

Petit believes they won the game thanks to Rice’s performance alongside Jorginho in the middle.

“Arsenal won the game because of the midfield,” stated the Spaniard.

“It was critical to their performance, and they dominated the midfield physically, technically, and tactically.”

“Jorginho and Rice both performed brilliantly.

Rice, who has been called the Premier League player of the season so far, has wasted no time to settle in at Arsenal, producing dominant displays in the middle of the park since his £105 million transfer from West Ham United last summer.

And Petit thinks the England international should be made the new skipper at Arsenal, showering him with glowing praise.

“He should be Arsenal captain for me,” he added.

“He has such a brilliant character, and he is a leader.

“He has something different to the rest of the players and is so influential in big games.”

The 25-year-old is no stranger to captaining his team; he led West Ham to a big title last season, winning the Europa Conference League.

Since joining the Emirates, he has played 23 league games and scored three goals, including crucial strikes against Manchester United and Luton Town.
